TOEIC直前集中講座も第４回を迎えちょうど７回コースの真ん中に来ました。
今回は福岡でTOEICの試験がありお二人が欠席でしたが、出席されたみなさんは時間前から単語テストに備えた練習などやる気満々。授業はまたPart 3から始めましたが、最初の２時間はとにかく耳と口を使い英語のリズムの中にひたすら身をゆだねるという感じ。
今回の文法のテーマは「時制」。TOEIC頻出度第３位です。日本語と英語の時制の感覚に多少ずれがあるので、このテーマは熟練者でも間違いの多いところです。
たとえば次の空欄に動詞を正しく活用して入れてみてください。
I ____________ (meet) Junko and Hiro yesterday as I ___________ (walk) through the park. They __________________ (be) at the Sports Center, where they ____________
(play) tennis. They ________________ (go) to a cafe for some iced tea and __________
(invite) me to join them, but I ________________ (arrange) to meet a friend and _________ (not/ have) time.

I met Junko and Hiro yesterday as I was walking through the park. They had been at the Sports Center, where they had been playing ( or had played) tennis. They were going to a cafe for some iced tea and invited me to join them, but I had arranged to meet a friend and didn't have time.
次回ゆっくりと説明しますが、過去形と過去完了（ふたつの過去の出来事の古い方に使います）の違いはしっかり覚えておきましょう。
